Marsibil Sól Þórarinsdóttir Blöndal

Marsibil Sól, born in 1998 in Reykjavík, Iceland, graduated with a BA in Product Design from the Iceland University of the Arts (Listaháskóli Íslands) in 2022.

Recently, she has been focusing on designing for play, critically examining the values and motivations behind toys, playgrounds, and other play-inducing designs. As both a designer and an artist, Marsibil does not feel compelled to categorize each project strictly as either design or art. She enjoys working across both disciplines, leveraging the strategies and ideals associated with each to enrich her work and guide her creative process. Although many regard her as a sculptor—an identity that emerged after she showcased her large-scale sculptures—Marsibil never formally adopted this title. Nevertheless, her consistent creation of sculptures has solidified her reputation in this field.

Marsibil places significant emphasis on craftsmanship and carving in her sculptures. Her passion for carving wood and creating three-dimensional objects, coupled with her eagerness to embrace new challenges, finds its fullest expression in her sculptural works.

In addition to her design and sculptural endeavors, Marsibil is an art director and photographer, engaging in a various of projects with unique narratives and visions.
